Hematology Specialization
Since the Department meets the requirements of scientific competence in terms of medical staff, high level clinical work, large number of hospitalized and monitored patients and a well-equipped Hematology Laboratory, KESY/YSKKA approved on 11.8.1995, that the Department of Pediatric Hematology – Oncology of "Agia Sophia" Children's Hospital would provide the full-time specialization of Hematology (3.5 years duration). –KESY/Ministry of Justice - Decisions of 5/7/1989 and 11/8/1995. Thus, the practitioner covers the requirements for the specialization: 2 years of Clinical and 1.5 years of Laboratory Hematology.
Furthermore, colleagues specialized in the Hematology or Biopathology Laboratory of the Hospital, coming to our Department, are trained in the evaluation of bone marrow aspirates and peripheral blood, the study of full blood count, (morphology and immunofluorescence),cerebrospincal fluid cytospin, as well as other specialized techniques for detecting qualitative and quantitative disorders of the blood-forming elements.
The above possibility of full-time Clinical Exercise and Laboratory in Hematology Specialty, since 1995, is available only from the Department of Pediatric Hematology - Oncology of "Agia Sophia" Children's Hospital.
In addition to being awarded the specialization of Hematology, the Department is also one of the leading Departments responsible for the training of Pediatricians or Hematologists in the specialization of pediatric hematology.
